Two People Doing Great Work - Get to Know Them!
I’m fortunate to know many talented people. Today I’d like to spotlight two of them:
Storybook Maze was a library coworker of mine a few years ago, just before she got the idea of becoming a radical street librarian dedicated to eliminating “book deserts,” underserved communities where children have little or no access to books. I hated to see her leave the library system, but she is seeing far-reaching results in advancing access to books, promoting literacy, and more. You can find her on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, but please check out her TED Talk first.
I’ve enjoyed a tremendous friendship for several years now with Timothy Evans, a cinephile who has been a constant source of film knowledge, introducing me to many movies I would never have known about without him. But he’s more than a movie fan, he’s also a creator.
Truth Serum is Timothy’s first film as Casting Director and Producer, and it’s a terrific film starring Richard Gadd from the Netflix drama Baby Reindeer.
This short 21-minute film showcases a talented cast, all of whom play characters invited to a party. All is well until the guests wonder why they suddenly feel an uncontrollable urge to tell the truth, whether they want to or not. Tim did a fantastic job of casting the film with superb comedic talent in the lead roles, and the film goes the extra mile by delivering brief glimpses of secondary characters causing major embarrassments in their unexpected truth-telling adventures.
You might think the premise would lead to either chaos or one insufferable “I’ve seen this before” scene after another, but the pacing and the acting are so good, you wish the film would keep going.
You can watch the entire movie below. (Although the film is not rated, it contains adult language.) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I’m so proud to know Storybook Maze and Timothy and I can’t wait to see what they will do next. Please celebrate the people in your life who are doing wonderful things!
