Hey 2025, Film Noir is Back... Hope You're Ready
Other than my January New Releases video, most of December was devoted to my Best of the Year lists, but now it’s time for film noir to move back onto center stage. Here’s what I have planned:
I know it’s been a looooooooong wait since the last installment of my Film Noir on Physical Media series, a projected six-part series on the films I believe are worth exploring and owning on physical media. So far I’ve written on:
I hope to have Part 2 of the Collectors list ready soon. (Some of those films are pictured above.)
For those unfamiliar with this series of posts, I’m endeavoring to give you a list of what I consider to be the essential film noir titles to own on physical media, titles for serious collectors, and those that may be of interest. I’ve also included overviews of each film (or links to previous reviews I’ve written) and the specific physical media releases I prefer, although some are now out-of-print and hard to find.
Please know that since these lists take considerable time to research and prepare, they are for paid subscribers only (with limited previews). If you’re not a paid subscriber, I hope you’ll consider becoming one.
Plus the Noir City 2025 cycle kicks off very soon at the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland, California, January 24 through February 2, 2025 with Eddie Muller and Alicia Malone. You can find more information here. Maybe I’ll see you there?
Finally, a huge thank you to several of you who have read my article on the women of Act of Violence (1948) in the newest issue of Noir City Magazine (#42) and have left me very kind messages. I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
And if you haven’t checked out the magazine, you can enjoy it digitally right here. By doing so, you’re also supporting the Film Noir Foundation. If you’d prefer a print version, you can do that here.
Thank you again for reading Journeys in Darkness and Light, watching my YouTube channel, and being a film noir fan. Talk to you soon.
