I can’t tell you how heavy my heart is right now… My final article for The Dark Pages: The Newsletter for Film Noir Lovers has just gone to print. I will miss my wonderful editor, friend, and fellow film noir fanatic Karen Burroughs Hannsberry. I was honored to spend nearly seven years as a staff writer for the newsletter, writing articles, reviews, and “What’s New in Film Noir?” announcements for new physical media releases of film noir titles. I was also privileged to appear in the newsletter with several fantastic writers, many of whom I’m now friends with.
Some of you may know I’m working on a big book project which is taking up most of my writing time and will for a while. (Don’t worry, I plan to keep this Substack newsletter going for a long time!) But I knew I had to let some things go including adding new content to my YouTube channel and writing for The Dark Pages.
I can’t thank Karen enough for giving me a chance to write for her and her wonderful readers. It has been an experience I’ll never forget, especially meeting so many readers at Noir City Chicago in 2019, where this photo was taken. Karen, thank you so much for your expert guidance, mentoring, and kindness. I love The Dark Pages so much I’m having all issues from the past seven years professionally bound in two volumes! (And if you haven’t read The Dark Pages, you’re missing out on a lot of fun. Try it right now!)
My final article in the July/August 2025 is a review of the recent Warner Archive release of Side Street (1949).
My very best to Karen, the writers of The Dark Pages, and all its readers. Thank you!
